BIRDS IN WATERCOLOUR. PAINTING WORKSHOP.

£40

Saturday 19th July 2025. 10am – 4pm. Heavitree Scout Hut.

No experience necessary. This course is designed for beginners and elementary painters. Please see details below about the materials you need to bring with you.

If you have never painted or drawn before, don’t worry! I will show you simple ways of achieving great results very easily. My expertise lies in simplifying techniques so students feel confident that they have achieved reachable goals without a struggle.

I will be providing you with images which you can either trace, or draw by eye, and I will then guide you step-by-step through the whole process of layering paints. This makes it much easier to grasp the technique because I will help you through each stage of the painting. This technique can then be applied to any other bird painting you may wish to do in your spare time.

I love to teach people to draw and paint. There is no mystery or special gift needed, just an understanding of the little tricks and techniques that everyone can learn.

Please email me if you would like to attend and to receive bank details for the BACS payment. Send a £20 non-returnable deposit to secure your place. The remaining £20 will be due 2 weeks before the course. Please let me know when you have paid the deposit so that I can mark you down as an attendee.

LIST OF MATERIALS FOR THE BIRD PAINTING WORKSHOP

An HB pencil and an eraser. Ideally a mechanical/automatic pencil is the finest tool to draw with, no sharpener is needed.

A set of beginners watercolours. This set by Winsor and Newton is ideal, and good quality. Please don’t be tempted by cheaper brands, you will struggle to get good results from the paint.

A set of pointed watercolour brushes of various sizes. Royal and Langnickle are an affordable and decent brand. A smaller set than the one pictured is also great. Just make sure you have a range of sizes from large to fine.

Water colour paper, A4 or A5 COLD PRESSED. 100% or 50% cotton. Recommended not to buy cheap watercolour paper as this will affect the quality of your painting. Baohong Academy 100% cotton paper is very reasonably priced if bought from Shein. Check measurements of the pad before placing your order.

A jar or cup for water.

A plastic or ceramic mixing palette. An old plate with also be fine, as will jar lids.

    1. Hi Jean, thanks for getting in touch. I don’t have a firm date for the next one, but it’ll very likely be in September. I’m planning to do another flower painting workshop. I’ll add you to my email list, so I’ll be in touch. Hope this helps.

      1. Thankyou that will be great. I would attend flower workshop but prefer birds and wildlife and as I live in Minehead would need a little notice as would probably stay over. Thanks again

        1. Hi Jean, I’ve sent an email about my forthcoming bird workshop on 19th July about a week ago. Check your spam folder. If it’s not there, I’ll resend.
