PET / ANIMAL PAINTING WORKSHOP
£40
10am – 4pm Saturday 26th April 2025
Paint your own pet or favourite animal with water-based gouache paints.
No experience necessary. This course is designed for beginners and elementary painters. Please see details below about the materials you need to bring with you.
If you have never painted or drawn before, don’t worry! I will show you simple ways of achieving great results very easily. My expertise lies in simplifying techniques so students feel confident that they have achieved reachable goals without a struggle.
By the end of the day, students will have completed a finished gouache painting of their chosen animal, and will be furnished with a full understanding of how to draw and paint eyes, fur and animal features for their continued self-directed learning at home.
I love to teach people to draw and paint. There is no mystery or special gift needed, just an understanding of the little tricks and techniques that everyone can learn.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
All these materials can easily be bought from Amazon or Hobbycraft.
An HB pencil and an eraser. Ideally a mechanical/automatic pencil is the finest tool to draw with, no sharpener is needed.

Fine liner waterproof 0.05 black pen by STAEDTLER or SAKURA
GOUACHE PAINTS
WATER based gouache paints in metal tubes. Please make sure you don’t buy acrylic gouache.
I highly recommend getting mid to high range of paints. I cannot vouch for the quality of the cheap paints as I haven’t used them.
The Schmincke set has only a few colours, but every colour in the spectrum can be created from the selection, their colours are exquisite.

Top Range, with my recommendation.

Pebeo gouache is available on Amazon.
Cheap and cheerful.

A set of pointed brushes suitable for watercolour. NOT bristle brushes, as these are for oil painting. Royal and Langnickle brushes are affordable, and good quality, such as the pack in the photo. You can buy a smaller set. Three or four brushes is all you’ll need. From large to very small.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST ONE VERY FINE POINTED BRUSH FOR FINE DETAILS. The measurements will be 0 or 00 or 000.

A plastic or ceramic mixing palette, or an old plate. A selection of jar lids also make great palettes.
