OVERVIEW OF HOW TO COMMISSION A PORTRAIT
To commission a portrait, please read about the process below.
The first stage of the process begins with a conversation between the client and the artist. This conversation takes place in order to help the Artist to understand the wishes of the Client.
Following this, the Client receives a detailed quote by email
The Client makes first installment payment of 50% non returnable deposit Artist takes/selects photographs of subject
The Artist creates up to 3 sketches for approval by Client
Subsequently, the Artist and Client sign agreement to begin the painted work
The Client receives photographic and written updates.
The Artist completes work
The Client receives invoice for final payment Dispatch/Delivery
PHOTOGRAPHY
The artist spends between an hour and two hours with the client, to take the photographs. This is not a professional photographic shoot. It is a record of images to enable the Artist to connect with the client. Above all, this helps the Artist to represent their character in an authentic and natural way.
The daily rate for the photographic session is £100 per portrait, plus travel expenses and accommodation (if necessary).
Sometimes it is not possible for the Artist to take the photographs in the case of distance, schedules or posthumous portraits. If this is the case, the client can send a selection of their photographs via Dropbox or a similar platform. Following this, the Artist will work with the client to choose the best one for a painting.
MAKING PAYMENTS
You can make payments using BACS, Paypal or credit card. Fees are incurred for Paypal and credit card and consequently these will be added to the invoice.
Paying by BACS is the best option.
THE SKETCHING PROCESS
The final cost of the portrait includes up to three sketches. The artist will submit a PDF file by email of the proposed sketch. Subsequently, the client can request two more redraws. Consequent redraws will incur a charge of £100 per redraw.
Colour changes are completely free of charge, and have no limit.
BEGINNING WORK ON THE FINAL PAINTING
Nadezhda will work with the you to choose the best photograph to translate into a painting. Once we have reached an agreement, we will both sign a mutual consent form. The Artist will commence work on the final painting.
No changes can be requested after this agreement has been signed.
Meanwhile, the artist will keep in touch with the client to let them know how the work is progressing, and will send photographs if the client wishes.
ON COMPLETION OF THE PAINTING
When the painting is completed, an invoice for the remaining 50% of the total cost will be sent to the client. After that, once payment has been received, and the funds have cleared, Nadezhda will despatch the completed painting.
TIME SCHEDULE
The time schedule for each painting takes between 1 and 3 months, once the final sketch is approved and the agreement is signed. This includes drying time, varnishing, and drying time for the varnish.
Therefore, at the time of ordering a commission, the artist will give you an approximate time frame according to the current schedule and waiting list.
For Instance, digital drawings which will be printed onto canvas and paper, have a shorter waiting time. In this case two to three weeks is expected. This estimate begins after a signing an agreement to begin the work.
