Cuban ballet dancer, Jorge Barani, is an International Principal Guest Artist
To view the beautiful, creative process of this painting, with music chosen by the dancer himself:
This painting is the third in my series of male ballet dancers. Having trained professionally as a ballet dancer, I instinctively understand good balletic form – not just the shape of the body itself, but the ability of the dancer to create perfect form in their movement. I spend hours and hours seeking the perfect moment in time which will translate into a comprehensible ballet painting.
Jorge Barani is one of my favourite ballet dancers in the world today. His ability to astonish the audience with eye-popping jumps and logic-defying pirouettes leaves everyone breathless with amazement. Alongside his dazzling, passionate and joyous performances, his technical precision is what attracts me as a painter. When ballet is executed at its highest level of technique, the body becomes a vehicle for perfect geometric lines, and this is at the heart of my desire in the creation of this series of ballet paintings. Jorge creates a beauty of form which profoundly inspires me as an artist.
Jorge generously gave me permission to use his photo for the creation of my painting.
